Poseidon was the second son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, he and the rest of the Olympians joined Zeus in his battle against the Titans and won. After the war, the world was divided into three, Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon each controlled a piece, thus Poseidon became the God of the sea.
Poseidon can also create earthquakes with his trident, unleash devastation on the sea and sinking numerous ships, the sailors worship Poseidon for protection for a safe voyage, sometimes drowning horses as a sacrifice to the sea god. Like his brother Zeus, Poseidon was said to have had many lovers and fathered many heroes and mythical creatures in the Greek legends.
